RCMP confirm officers are investigating a drive-by shooting during the early hours of Saturday, August 7 in the Mountain Station area of Nelson.

RCMP said in a media release just after 2:30 a.m. Saturday, the Nelson RCMP were contacted after receiving a report of possible shots fired in the 1400 Block of Ash Street in Nelson.

“Frontline RCMP officers immediately attended with assistance from the Nelson City Police Department to the 1400 block of Ash St and found that multiple shots had been fired and a residence had been struck numerous time,” the RCMP media release said.

“Police gained entry into the house and learned that it was unoccupied at the time, and there have been no reports of any injuries.”

Cpl Derek Pitt, Nelson RCMP Detachment Commander said responding officers located several bullet casings on the ground outside the residence and are trying to determine what types of firearms were used in this incident.

“Nelson RCMP Detachment Commander Several different calibers of spent casing have been seized, and investigators will try and determine if these have been used in other crimes,” Cpl. Pitt said.

Cpl Pitt said in addition to this incident, another residence rented by the same tenant on Highway 3A was found to have suffered a small amount of damage from incendiary devices.

Cpl Pitt said these two incidences are both believed to be linked, and targeted.

“It is believed that these homemade devices were thrown at the residence,” Cpl Pitt said.

“The resident of both these residences has been contacted by investigators and has been co-operating with the investigation.”

Members of the Kootenay Boundary Regional RCMP Forensic Identification Section worked with investigators at both scenes.

The Nelson RCMP are asking anyone with information on either of these investigations to please contact them at (250) 352-2156.
