It’s an event that is sure to light up the landscape in Nelson.

The Polka Dot Dragon Lantern Festival, set early February at Rotary Lakeside Park, is an event the public surely will not want to miss and a happening Artistic Director, Myra Rasmussen looks forward to the community gathering for this year’s festival.

“It’s an opportunity to come together. It’s an excuse to make art,” says Rasmussen.

“It’s nice to get out at a time of year when not so much is happening. We are very much at the mercy of the weather, but I think people appreciate it even more because of that.”

The annual festival will take place on February 11th from 5 to 7 p.m. at Nelson’s Rotary Lakeside Park, and the public can expect to be ‘wowed’ by this year’s theme: “Enchanted Forest.”

Commissioned artists and performers are working hard to prepare their pieces for the big night.

Lantern workshops are underway across Nelson in schools and beyond.

Polka Dot Dragon Arts Society, which focuses on creating multi disciplinary events that link arts, nature, and community, produces the lantern festival each February.
