After months of balls flying through the air and players sprinting down the field, the final whistle sounded Monday on the 2010 Nelson Youth Soccer season.

Players and coaches will enjoy a feast tonight at the awards banquet and the executive plays host to the annual general meeting Wednesday, October 13th at the Best Western Baker Street Inn.

But that’s all sugar coating on a great season that culminated with champions being crowned the upper echelon of house league play.
Monday saw the winner’s taste from the cup of victory in the U17 Girls and Boy’s divisions.

Firefighters got some outstanding goalkeeping from Dustin Steeger to bounce Maglios 5-2 in the boy’s finale.

In the bronze medal match, L.V. Rogers Bomber star Luke Mori scored a bundle to power Terratherma to a 13-5 victory.

In girl’s U17 play, Mountain FM edged IXL Driver Training 2-1. Once again a goalkeeper stole the show as Katarina Garbula lead Mountain FM to the top prize.

In U14 girl’s division, Cowan’s doubled Kaslo Jazz 4-2.
Cowan’s had a much tougher time advancing to the final as RHC Insurance Brokers gave the overall winners everything they could handle, bowing 1-0 on a goal late in the contest.

Meanwhile, Kaslo Jazz edged Abacus Heating Ventilation 2-1 in the other semi final.

In the U14 boy’s, Blue Marble Capital Management outlasted Midas 5-3. Blue Marble, which finished down in the regular season standings, rallied during the playoffs to post an upset victory over Pacific Insight 3-1 in the semi final. Midas edged Poulin Insurance 1-0 to advance.

In the U12 Boy’s Pool A playoffs, Western Auto Wreckers came away with the gold medal after a narrow shootout victory over Spearhead 6-5. In the consolation round, Pacific Insight defeated Kootenay Lake Electric 3-1.

In the U12 Boy’s Pool B, Kolmel Jewelers beat Kal Tire 5-2 while Oso Negro won the bronze with a 5-2 win over Quizno’s Subs.
In U13 Girls, Hanley and Son Construction edged Investors Group 4-3 in shootout.

Hanley advanced to the final by getting past JB Office 2-1 in a semi final thriller while Investors outlasted Pacific Insight 3-2.

The NYS annual general meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Parents, coaches and players are invited to attend to map out the direction youth soccer will be taking in 2011.

OVERTIME: The season now shifts from outdoor to indoor as Soccer Quest kicks off another campaign at the indoor facility. . . .The Nelson Youth Soccer rep program also experienced a great season capped by the provincial title won by the U18 Boy’s Team in July.
