Pickleball taking over Heritage City

Tracy Bennet’s life revolves around pickleball.
A transplant from Kimberley less than a year ago, Bennet loves her new life in Nelson mainly due to her connection to the local pickleball community.
Bennet was a professional tennis player and coach, so playing and instructing others in pickleball came naturally to her.
“I’m a former tennis pro and was an extremely high-level tennis coach for three and a half decades,” Bennet explains.
“I’ve got a really good connection with Tennis Canada, and Tennis Canada has taken over Pickleball Canada.
Pickleball is growing in popularity in Nelson and beyond.
“Pickleball is the fastest growing sport in the world right now. It’s a combination of table tennis, badminton, and tennis,” said Bennet.
Many people with experience with racket sports fall into pickleball easily. She sees the impact the sport is having on the community.
“Pickleball has changed many people’s lives by getting them out, getting them fit, getting them healthy, helping them find friends and community.”
