NPD says skateboarder knocked unconcious after fall while riding on city streets

A skateboarder is lucky not to have sustained serious injury after falling off the board near Park and Vernon Streets Saturday (June 5) night.
Police received a call at approximately 10:30 p.m. that a male was found unconscious at the top of Vernon Street, around the 900 Block.
It was determined the male, not wearing a helmet, fell off his skateboard while travelling down Park Street at a high rate of speed.
The male regained consciousness before being transported to Kootenay Lake Hospital for treatment.
Nelson Police would like to remind the public that skateboarding within the city limits is not permitted with the exception of the Rosemont skate park.
Those observed in contravention of the by-law may face fines and/or skateboard seizure.
In addition, police strongly encourage users to wear protective equipment while riding.
Man brings baseball bat to fight
Friday (June 5) at approximately 6:34 pm, the Nelson Police dispatch received a call that a fight was happening in the Lower Fairview area after a man forced entry into the residence with a baseball bat.
Police found that the man accosted a female inside.
The male was restrained by other occupants and escorted from the residence.
As police were conducting interviews, the offending male was observed nearby and taken into custody by police.
The man was arrested and is currently in custody for upcoming court.
During the investigation police determined that this was not a random act and that the male and female were known to each other.
Playing with heavy equipment machinery can be dangerous
In the early hours of Sunday morning (June 7), Nelson Police attended a call at the Nelson Commons development at Vernon and Hendryx Streets.
When police arrived they found two males had entered the construction site.
Once inside, the males climbed the crane within the construction site before being located by officers.
The males were taken into custody and arrested for mischief.
The Nelson Police Department would like to remind the general public that entering into any active construction site is not only dangerous but persons entering may be arrested and face charges.
Drinking in public place can prove costly
The Nelson Police Department received several calls for service in relation to persons consuming alcohol in public areas.
Officers would like to remind the public that consuming alcohol in public is not permitted and those who choose to do so can face a fine of $230 under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act.
In addition, being intoxicated in public is also not permitted and those found to be intoxicated in public could face a fine of $115 and/or arrest under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act.
