Nelson Police said there is no further risk to the public following a stabbing incident Saturday evening at the Chalko Mika Mall.

Nelson Police said Saturday evening at 7:12 p.m. the department received several 911 calls for a disturbance at the mall involving three people.

When police arrived, officers determined that a suspect had attempted to steal a female’s purse and the female’s partner sustained a non-life-threatening stab wound during the struggle.

“The suspect fled prior to police arrival and the male victim was subsequently transported to hospital for additional treatment,” the NPD media release said.

Nelson Police said officers identified a male suspect Sunday afternoon before apprehending the man at approximately 1:15 p.m.

“The male suspect is currently in custody awaiting a bail hearing with recommended charges of robbery, assault causing bodily harm, and assault with a weapon,” Nelson Police said.

Police said everyone involved in the incident are known to each other and officers do not believe there is any further risk to the greater public.
