Northport takes out Nelson Toyota to capture WKMBL Championship

Skylar Dumas scored 20 points and Brandon Truth added 14 to spark Northport, WA., to a 86-76 win over Nelson Toyota in the final of the West Kootenay Men’s Basketball League Monday at the Mount Sentinel Gymnasium.

The win avenged a loss by Northport to the same Nelson Toyota squad in the 2018 Championship Game.

Trailing 28-18 in the first half, Northport took control of the game with a 28-3 run to take a 46-31 lead at recess.

Northport extended the lead to 71-57 in the second half before Nelson Toyota staged a brief comeback, cutting the margin to 78-72 with time running out.

Mike Potestio added 12 points for Northport.

Matthew Fuhr led all scorers with 33 points for Nelson Toyota. Jeremy Phelan had 25 for Nelson Toyota.

Nelson Toyota played most of the game without the services of scorer Mike Vance, who sprained an ankle following a collision in the first half.

Northport defeated Mota Automotive to reach the final while Nelson Toyota edged out Empire Coffee in the Nelson semi final.
