No students injured after vehicle collides with School Bus

Salmo RCMP said two people were taken to hospital, but no students were injured, following an accident involving a School Bus Wednesday morning on Highway 3.
RCMP said that at 8:44 a.m., officers received a call reporting a two-vehicle collision on Highway 3 just outside of Salmo.
“A school bus was transporting children to the Salmo Elementary School and turning left off Highway 3 to Carney Mill Road when it was struck by a west bound sedan on Highway 3,” the RCMP media release said.
“The two adult occupants of the sedan were taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.”
RCMP said the school bus and sedan were extensively damaged as a result of the collision but luckily none of the children aboard the bus were injured.
RCMP said that after the collision the children on the bus were safely transported to the school by a secondary school bus.
The Kootenay Lake School District said in a media statement that the students on board the bus were checked out by emergency services at the scene and two students were further assessed at Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson.
The Kootenay Lake School District said following the assessment at the hospital, all students, including the bus driver, were reported as okay.
“We are relieved that all students and staff involved in this incident were able to return to school and home,” said Superintendent Trish Smillie.
“Students or families who identify they need additional supports can make arrangements through their school principal to access those supports,”
The Kootenay Lake School District said families and staff were notified immediately about the accident and the children on the bus as well as children waiting for the bus were safely transported to school by a second school bus.
Police said this collision is currently under investigation and the Salmo RCMP are asking that anyone who witnessed this collision please contact the Detachment at 250-357-2212.
