No one was hurt, but a Bonnington family is dealing with a poor start to the Christmas season after fire destroyed their mobile home Thursday morning.

Local volunteer firefighters departments from Beasley, Blewett, Crescent Valley and Tarry’s fire departments responded to the call in the 3700 block of Bonnington Road that came in shortly before 8 a.m.

Someone driving past on Bonnington Road witnessed the fire and called 9-1-1 Emergency.

The fire appears to have started in the attached building to the mobile home but quickly spread into the main part of the trailer. Thick black smoke could be seen by morning commuters from Highway 3A rising above the treetops.

No one was at home at the time of the fire.

No estimate of the damage was available, but the mobile trailer was completely gutted.

Firefighters spent most of the morning and into the afternoon mopping up the fire.

Bonnington Road is located approximately 20 kilometers west of Nelson on Highway 3A.
