Bemidji State University may have found a bit of a recruiting gold mine in Nelson Minor Hockey.

The NCAA Division 1 university landed a second Nelson Minor Hockey player to the varsity hockey program after signing Noah Quinn to play at the Minnesota-based school.

“(Noah Quinn) contributes in all situations, takes face-offs, and is responsible,” said the Bemidji State University media release.

“He doesn’t wear a letter on his jersey like the older players tagged as captains do — but Quinn has been a leader on the ice.”

Quinn, in his second season with the Cranbrook Bucks of the BC Hockey League, has enjoyed a strong start to the 2021-22 season.

Quinn, 18, has tallied seven goals and eight assists for 15 points through his first 13 games of the current campaign — totalls that rank him third on the team in both goals and assists, and second in points.

Quinn points out that he isn’t the first Nelson Minor Hockey graduate to choose Bemidji State University.

Also hailing from the small town in the mountains of BC is Reece Hunt, who has spent the past three seasons with Bemidji’s Women’s team.

Hunt is the younger sister of Dryden Hunt — who played briefly in the BCHL as an affiliate with the Trail Smoke Eaters and now suits up for the New York Rangers of the National Hockey League.

As for Quinn, the Bucks look to snap a two-game losing skid Saturday in West Kelowna.

Cranbrook is currently sixth in the Interior Division of the BCHL with a 8-6-1-0-0 record.
