Nelson’s Dryden Hunt earned his first National Hockey League point Monday night as the Florida Panthers edged New Jersey Devils 3-2 at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

The Nelson Minor Hockey grad assisted on Jared McCann’s game winner with 7:15 remaining the third period to spark the Panthers past the Devils. Hunt chipped the puck to McCann, who did most of the work, skating into the New Jersey zone before beating goalie Cory Schnieder on a rebound.

The point came on the same night netminder Roberto Luongo set an NHL mark, becoming only the second goalie in history to register 200 wins with two teams.

Luongo had 252 wins with the Vancouver Canucks from 2006-14.

Hunt, who has not played for the Panthers since November 19th against Anaheim, finished the game Monday with 12:32 of ice time in 20 shifts.

Hunt, who has played seven games with the Panthers, was called up from Florida’s American Hockey League affiliate, Springfield Thunderbirds earlier this month to play his first NHL game in Buffalo against the Sabres.

Florida travels to New York Tuesday to meet the Rangers.
