Nelson's Atlyn Proctor off to Canada Cup Volleyball Tournament as a member of Team BC

Atlyn Proctor is off to Calgary to compete at the Canada Cup Volleyball Tournament as a member of Team BC following a successful tryout camp in Kamloops.

Team BC opens the national tournament Thursday with games against Manitoba Gold and Alberta 15.

The Nelson player began the rigorous selection process in June with a regional camp in Creston.

From there, along with four other players, Proctor attended the July provincial camp in Kamloops before being selected to Team BC.

The past 10 days the players have been training in preparation for the Canada Cup.

The 6-foot middle blocker, when playing high school volleyball with the L.V. Rogers Bombers program, is being moved to power hitter on Team BC.

Proctor began playing volleyball in Grade 6 at Trafalgar in the volleyball academy as well as the Thunder girls’ teams.

The 16-year-old Proctor has been playing for the Bombers since Grade 9.

Proctor also played club volleyball for the U14 West Kootenay club team in Grade 8 and the senior team in Grade 9 and 10.

Proctor comes from a volleyball family as Father Greg and Mother Staci both played at the university level and overseas in Switzerland.

The Canada Cup tournament runs from July 21-24 and brings together Canada’s up-and-coming high-performance athletes to compete for their province in a national championship.

The tournament is an in key piece of talent development process for the national program with more than 300 athletes attending the event.

Staci Proctor joins daughter Atlyn at the tournament as an assistant coach for one of the two Team BC squads.
