Nelson sees six illicit drug overdoses in past 24 hours

Nelson Police is urging the drug using public of a spike in overdose cases in the Heritage City during the past 24 hours.

In a media release Wednesday, Nelson Police advises the public of a serious fentanyl situation in the Nelson area. 

“Police have dealt with six overdose cases in the last 24 hours and are concerned this will continue,” Nelson Police said in the media release.

“Police are currently investigating the cause behind this spike in overdose cases, but wanted to ensure the public is aware and people who may use illicit drugs take precautions, as there may be deadly consequences.”

Nelson Police said first responders — police, fire and Emergency Health Services  — have successfully brought all six cases back from their overdose using Narcan (Naloxone).
