Nelson RCMP deal with numerous calls for service

RCMP officers from the Nelson Detachment responded to a variety of calls during the past few weeks, including campers stranded on Pig Island on Kootenay River near Beasley, theft of fire equipment from the Beasley Fire Hall, an intoxicated woman smashing windows with an axe at a boat access cabin in the West Arm of Kootenay Lake, assault with a weapon that had occurred in Slocan Park BC and a report of a large grass fire along Highway 3A near Annabel Road on the North Shore.
On July 15, 2021, the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of a collision on Highway 3A and 6 in South Slocan BC, where a pickup truck pulling a trailer carrying logs had lost control and went off the travel portion of the roadway. No injuries were sustained.
On July 17, 2021, the Nelson RCMP received a report of a jet ski that had been found floating on the Kootenay River. Efforts continue to identify the registered owner of the personal watercraft. The proper owner is encouraged to contact the Nelson RCMP and quote police file number 2021-3375.
On July 17, 2021, at 6:25 a.m., the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of stranded campers on Pig Island, located on the Kootenay River. The campers had been stranded on the island after their boat had floated away downstream. The Beasley Fire Department utilized their rescue boat to transport the campers back to the mainland.
On July 17, 2021, the Nelson RCMP received a report of a theft of firefighting equipment from the Beasley Fire Hall. Several portable water pumps were among the stolen items. Anyone with any information on this theft, or knows the current whereabouts of the stolen equipment, is urged to contact the Nelson RCMP immediately.
On July 17, 2021, just before 11:30 p.m., the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of an intoxicated woman smashing windows with an axe at a boat access cabin in the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. RCMP attended the area by police boat in the dark in order to investigate and ensure everyone’s well-being. Ultimately, the property owner did not wish for criminal charges because of the damage.
On July 21, 2021, the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of a domestic assault that occurred in Slocan Park BC. A 40-year-old man has since been arrested in relation to this incident and will be appearing in court in Nelson on September 28, 2021. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is being supported by RCMP Victim Services.
On July 22, 2021, the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of an assault with a weapon that had occurred in Slocan Park BC. An investigation into the stabbing incident is currently ongoing and criminal charges are pending. A 40-year-old man was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
On July 22, 2021, just before 7:30 a.m., the Nelson RCMP responded at the request of the local fire department to a report of a structure fire in the 4600-block of Highway 3A, North Shore. Investigators believe that the fire had started in a garage and fire officials were able to contain and extinguish the blaze. A cause has not yet been determined; the investigation remains ongoing.
On July 23, 2021, the Nelson RCMP received a report of a missing person who had last been seen on July 21. The 31-year-old man was located safe by Castlegar RCMP on July 26.
On July 23, 2021, shortly after 3 a.m., the Nelson RCMP received a report of an intoxicated woman who had gone missing after leaving a house party. The 18-year-old woman was later located safe, and discovered sleeping in a neighbouring residence, after having found her way inside.
On July 24, 2021, the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of a structure fire in Beasley, west of Nelson. A garage was lost in the early morning blaze, however fire services crews were able to protect the residence.
On July 27, 2021, at 4:46 p.m., the Nelson RCMP responded to a report of a large grass fire along Highway 3A near Annabel Road on the North Shore. BC Wildfire crews along with members from North Shore and Balfour Fire Departments were able to extinguish the fire but were unable to determine the cause. A watchful passerby spotted the blaze and attempted to put the fire out with his sandal while awaiting the arrival of the local fire department.
