Nelson Boxing Club steals show at Boxing BC Provincial Championships

There was no shortage of provincial caliber results for the Nelson Boxing Club at the 2020 Boxing BC Provincial Championships this past weekend in Richmond.

Nelson competitors won five medals as well as numerous other special awards, including Coach of the Year for Heritage City skipper Jesse Pineiro.

“I’m just very proud of everyone,” said Nelson coach Jesse Pineiro when asked about the amazing results.

“(Nelson boxers) really came together as a team and supported one another and the results speak to that.”

Riel Martinez, Leah Eberle, Stryder Sutton and Makalu Babott all returned with Gold medals while Elwyn Langford Won a Silver Medal.  Eberle also won Best Youth Boxer for 2019 while Babott won the Jimmy Symes Award for excellence.

Pinero was recognized by his peers as the top coach in the province.

“Being named coach of the year feels really great also,” Pineiro said. “I’ve been working at this sport for about 20 years now and it’s nice to be recognized amongst all the other talented coaches in the province.”

Brett Adams, who normally is in the ring, was along to assist Pinero with the coaching duties.

The Nelson Boxing Club is located at 685 Baker Street near Pharmasave. The club invites the public to the facility to train or become a member of the Boxing Club.
