Nelson Boxers power Team BC at Alberta Golden Gloves tourney

Nelson Amateur Boxing Club was well represented at the Alberta Golden Gloves 2019 competition with a quartet of fighters competing for Team BC this past weekend at the Carriage House Inn in Calgary.

Nelson Amateur Boxing Team attended as part of Team BC, which brought clubs from Nanaimo, Cranbrook, Salmon Arm and Fort St. John to represent the province.

The Nelson boxers included Brett Adams, Elias and Reil Martinez and Stryder Sutton while head coach Jesse Pineiro skippered Team BC.

Here’s how individual Nelson Boxing team members fared:

  • Brett Adams, known for his foot skills as Associated Head Coach for Vancouver Whitecaps Academy, won in the 91kg Elite Novice Division. Adams had two fights: a unanimous decision win against Sam On from Fort McMurray, and a final unanimous decision against Axel Anderson from Edmonton.
  • Elias Martinez( Junior C 80kg) lost a close decision to Canadian National Champion Yanick Lacroix of Medicine Hat.
  • Riel Martinez (Junior B 50kg) lost a split decision to Ayde Meredith of Calgary.
  • Stryder Sutton (Junior B 50kg) lost a split decision to Brodie Andrie of Red Deer.

Following the event, Team BC was awarded Best Team of the tournament.
