Nothing, not even the pressure of competing on the national stage, can stop Nelson Boxing Club fighters.

The local club garnered no less than four medals at the 2019 Super Channel Championships held this past week in Langford on Vancouver Island at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort Community.

Leading the contingent was Elias Martinez, Makalu Babott and Leah Eberle, all three capturing silver medals after tough losses in the Canadian Championship Round.

Martinez of Team BC was defeated by Mohammed Makhlouf of Manitoba in the Middle 75 kg division to finish second overall.

Eberle lost to a close fight to Lee Gyeongyeon of New Brunswick in the 52 Bantam (54kg) division.

The other boxer entered, Brayden Hellekson, finished third to claim the Bronze medal after a tough decision loss to Tiago Balteiro of Team Ontario.

Hellekson also won a bronze medal at the Canada Winter Games in Red Deer earlier this year.

Local fans get a chance to see the quartet in action when Nelson Boxing Club hosts Fight Night VI Saturday, May 11 at the Rod and Gun Club.
