Nelson Boxing Club’s Wamuna Fukada just returned from the Canadian National Boxing Championships in Brampton, Ont., with a bronze medal.

Fukada, 18, defeated a boxer from Prince Edward Island in the consolation bout to secure the medal in the 54kg division.

The Nelson Boxing Club member lost in the semi-finals to a boxer from Ontario.

“I was very happy with his performance at nationals,” said Team BC Head Coach Jesse Pineiro.

Pineiro, who also coaches at the Nelson Boxing Club, said Fukada is super dedicated, always in shape and is constantly working to improve in the sport.

“(Wamuna) showed the ability to adapt and learn under the hardest circumstances and the kind of fearlessness and positivity that will give him a bright future in the sport.”

Fukada’s other accomplishments include the 2022 YYC Cup Champion, 2022 Team BC vs Team Mexico in Mazatlan Sinaloa and 2022 Provincial Silver Medalist.
