LVR takes third at Junior Bombers Invitational Basketball Tournament

The L.V. Rogers Bombers dumped Nakusp 90-28 to finish third overall at the Junior Bombers Invitational Basketball Tournament Saturday at the Hangar in Nelson.

The tournament was won by Fernie Falcons, which defeated Mount Baker Wild 41-29 in the final.

LVR has no trouble with a Cougars squad, missing a key player due to injury from its roster for the Consolation Final.

The Bombers led 20-15 after the first quarter and 41-17 at recess.

Lanz Kin 14 paced the Bombers with 14 points while Arnow Ferres 12 added 12 and Gael Artega 11.

LVR opened the tournament Friday by outlasting Stanley Humphries of Castlegar 73-53.

Ferres led the Bombers in scoring with 18 points while Levi Konken had 14 and Artega 12

LVR led 32-21 at halftime.

The Bombers only loss of the tournament came in the semi-final against Mount Baker, 61-45.

The Wild opened with a full-court press that rattled the Bombers, which led to the visitors holding a 17-14 lead after one quarter.

Baker kept building on its lead throughout the game as LVR dealt with foul trouble to many of its starters that slowed the offence for the home side.

Keiran Shankowsky led the Wild with 19 points.

Artega had 12 points to lead the Bombers while Konken added 10.

Salmo Falcons defeated Grand Forks to finish seventh overall.

Salmo opened with a 44-21 loss to Mount Baker and a narrow 59-58 decision to Stanley Humphries.
