There will be $1,750 in cash prizes in the West Kootenay’s first 24 hour WebDev Showdown as local web designers face off in a design duel to benefit local non-profits and emerging businesses.
The West Kootenay is a thriving region boasting new media and web design talent that continues to grow exponentially as more and more creative folk launch businesses locally or relocate to the region.
For the first time this March, Tech Village, sponsored by the Kootenay Association for Science and Technology (KAST) and Invest Kootenay, will be putting that talent to the test to see who has the skills to design and build a cutting edge website for a deserving local non-profit or emerging small business in 24 hours or less.
It’ll be a showdown at sundown on March 11-12 as teams of two to five competitors compete in a digital design duel in Nelson.
The coffee pots will be working overtime as teams work through the night either at their own offices or in the Selkirk College lab, drawing upon the Selkirk College New Media students to assist them in their efforts.
First prize will take home $1,000 in cash, second is $500 and third is $250. Winners will be announced and celebrated in the Re-Load celebration to follow at 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 12.
Guests are invited to join in on the fun, watch the final presentation, view the final products and celebrate with the winners at the after-party including entertainment and refreshments.
Just who is the West Kootenay’s top dog when it comes to web-design? The first ever 24 hour WebDev Showdown hosted by Tech Village will soon reveal the answer.
