Letter: Support for Governments that encourage reduction of consumption

To The Editor:
Some of my resolution for 2018 involves understanding my behavior.
I drive a gas powered vehicle and understand that the exhaust emissions are a form of pollution. I try to limit the use of that vehicle by planning an “errand day”, when there are a lot of stops, or sidewalks have yet to be cleared. Walking is still an option, if I’m not picking up lumber and sidewalks are safe. I also understand that an increasing price on carbon pollution will encourage me to fine tune the use of my car.
If our municipality increased the fee per bag of garbage, I would continue to look for ways to reduce my waste. I view the “carbon tax” as a reality check. For those who have experienced water meters, you will understand being accountable for your consumption. You may also remember how you changed your consumption behavior and how that affected your monthly statement.
As an ever growing population of humans, we are just recently understanding that our consumption of fossil fuels is gradually making life on the planet increasingly difficult. Putting a price on those emissions is a way of paying the cost of our pollution.
Even better would be to reduce those emissions and its cost. I have no problem in supporting Governments that encourage us to reduce our consumption.
