Letter: The need to be more responsible

To The Editor:

With a focus on British Columbia and the issues of electoral reform and climate policy, I see potential for a meaningful relationship.  I admit I’m looking for ‘good news’ scenarios.  It has really bothered me to see contradictory government statements and actions that, on one hand, advocate for a climate change strategy while also supporting industrial projects that are counter to that strategy.

You will have to entertain me on this next bit.  What if Proportional Representation led to coalition governments where corporate influence would be reduced?

A possible outcome could be policy development that more effectively addresses specific issues.  Coalition and collaborative governments would have to reconcile party goals with the people who elected them.

Electoral reform and climate action both require political will that is based on all of us being more responsible for the future we want to live.
