Bryden Pow scored twice and Shawn Campbell netted the winner in overtime sparking the Nelson Leafs to a 4-3 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League victory over the Beaver Valley Nitehawks Thursday night in Fruitvale.

The victory, the fifth consecutive for Nelson over the Nitehawks, allowed the Leafs to remain in contention for the Murdoch Division Regular season title.

Nelson leads the Hawks by two points in Murdoch standing, but the Leafs have played one more game than Beaver Valley.

Beaver Valley can move into a first-place tie with Nelson Friday night when the Hawks travel to Castlegar to face the Rebels.

Should Beaver Valley pull out the win, it would set up a showdown for the Murdoch crown Saturday night in Nelson at the NDCC Arena on the final day of the KIJHL regular season schedule.

Game time is 7 p.m. Saturday.

Beaver Valley appeared poised to end Nelson’s hopes of a third consecutive Murdoch title, leading 3-2 with time running out in the third period.

However, Leafs rookie sensation Joe Davidson snapped a five-game goal scoring streak with game-tying marker with less than three minutes remaining.

Campbell then clinched the victory for Nelson, combining with Adam Diotte for the winner at the 2:29 mark of the first overtime period.

Bradley Ross, Morgan Peace and Jared Stocks scored for Beaver Valley, which held a 3-2 lead after 40 minutes. Ross and Peace scored 42 seconds apart in the second period, both goals coming on the power play.

The Hawks outshot the Leafs 36-32 in the game. However, Nelson held a 15-8 advantage over the final 22-plus minutes of the game.
