The Nelson Leafs needed to work a little longer to even the Murdoch Division Final Series.

Reid Wilson scored in overtime to lift the Leafs to a 2-1 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League victory over the Beaver Valley Nitehawks Sunday night at the NDCC Arena.

The best-of-seven series is now tied at 1-1 with Games three and four, Tuesday and Wednesday at the Frutivale Arena. Puck drop for both games is 7 p.m.

After 40 minutes of scoreless play, Leafs Nicholas Onofrychuk opened the scoring early in the third period.

Midway through the final period, Michael Hagen tied the game for Beaver Valley.

The Nitehawks finished the game outshooting Nelson 24-19, including a 12-4 advantage in the first period.

Hunter Young registered the win in goal for Nelson while Noah Decottignies took the loss for Beaver Valley.

The loss was the first of the playoffs for the Nitehawks, who rocked the Leafs 5-2 in Saturday’s series opener in Nelson.

Game five of the series is back in Nelson Friday, at 7 p.m. in the NDCC Arena.
