Leafs keep on winning, double up Storm 4-2

Nelson Leafs remain the hottest team in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League.

The Green and White started off the month of November just like the team ended October, skating to a 4-2 decision over the Kamloops Storm Saturday night at the NDCC Arena.

Nelson, 11-2-0-0-3, lead the Murdoch Division by two points over Beaver Valley Nitehawks.

The win also moves the Leafs into a tie for second overall in the KIJHL with Kimberley Dynamiters, one point behind league leading Kelowna Chiefs.

Cole Wyat, with a pair, Shawn Campbell and Reid Wilson, into an empty net, scored for the Leafs, which held period leads of 2-0 and 3-0.

Chris Thon scored twice, including a power play marker that pulled the Storm to within a goal midway through the third period.

Nelson outshot Kamloops 26-20.

Leaf goalie Anderson Violette won for the eighth consecutive time this season between the pipes.

Violette is tied with former Leaf Hunter Young at the top of goalie stats, each with a 1.64 GAA.

Nelson hosts Grand Forks Tuesday before heading out on a two-game weekend road trip to Spokane Friday and Fernie Saturday.

LEAF NOTES: Reid Wilson, Shawn Campbell and Cole Wyatt each finished the game with two points. . . .Wilson continues to lead the Leafs in scoring with 21 points, five ahead of Campbell. Defenceman Kaleb Comishin, forward Lane Goodwin and defenceman Logan MacDonald round out the top five scorers for Nelson. . . . Campbell leads Nelson in goals with 12. Bryden Pow is next with eight goals.
