The Nelson Leafs wasted little time in finding a new interim head coach for the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League franchise.

Nelson Leafs president Corey Viala said in a media release that the team has hired Briar McEnaney.

McEnaney, replacing former skipper Adam DiBella who resigned last week following his season-ending suspension by the KIJHL, has a solid coaching background after spending six seasons with the Columbia Valley Rockies.

McEnaney, also spent time with the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League.

McEnaney’s time as Head Coach in Columbia Valley seen him lead his team to one of the best win/loss records in Rockies team history.

McEnaney is considered a player’s coach who concentrates on player development, and he has great passion and knowledge of the game.

The Nelson Leafs are excited to welcome McEnaney to the Leafs and look forward to moving forward as we prepare to finish the regular season and enter this season’s playoffs with a renewed enthusiasm.

McEnaney has little time to acquaint himself with the Leafs as the Neil Murdoch team is in a fight for top spot in the division.

Second-place Nelson, 17-10-4-1, travels to face division-leading Grand Forks Border Bruins Friday in the Boundary City before returning home Saturday to host Castlegar Rebels at the NDCC for a 7 p.m. puck drop.
