Leaf shutout Hawks to open exhibition season

The Nelson Leafs opened the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League exhibition season on a positive note, posting a 5-0 decision over the Beaver Valley Nitehawks Thursday in Fruitvale.
Nelson held period leads of 3-0 and 4-0.
The Leafs continue the pre-season Friday at home against Revelstoke Grizzlies. Puck drop is 7 p.m.
Nelson travels to Revelstoke Saturday before concluding the pre-season Tuesday at the NDCC Arena against Beaver Valley.
The defending Murdoch Division champs open the 2018-19 KIJHL season at home Friday, September 7 against North Okanagan Knights.
