There was a different judge on the bench and lawyers advocating for their respective clients during Law Day 2017 Saturday at the Nelson Courthouse.

The event was part of BC Law Week, a national event celebrating the signing of Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Law day was held at courthouses in Victoria and Nelson.

The public was invited to the Nelson Courthouse to see learn more about BC Law as well as converse with the many law enforcement agencies in the region, including Nelson RCMP, Nelson Police Department, BC Sheriffs, BC Crown and local lawyers.

Those attending were given tours of the courthouse, including jail cells, had their mugshot photo taken, were fingerprinted and learned information about electronic monitoring.

There was also a mock trial with local students acting our roles as judge, lawyers, sheriffs, witnesses and jury.
