While Jeremy Irons has loved his career in public service, the Kimberley resident is ready to ride off into the retirement sunset after winning the $1 million Lotto 6/49 Guaranteed Prize for the draw on December 26, 2020.

Irons, who was a police officer until 2003 when he moved to Kimberley with his wife and became an animal protection officer, says he’s still having a hard time believing his win is real.

“I’ve been going on my phone every few hours just to check my ticket on the BCLC Lotto! app,” he says. “My wife and I have been in shock for days.”

Irons, who purchased his winning ticket on PlayNow.com, says his wife was speechless when she first saw the extra million dollars in his account.

“There were a lot of zeroes,” he said.

”We sat down trying to talk about what we’re going to do — and at the same time we’re just trying to absorb this win.”

In 2020, B.C. lottery players redeemed more than $106 million in winnings from Lotto 6/49. Lotto 6/49 is a nationwide lottery game drawn on Wednesdays and Saturdays after 7:30 p.m. (PST).
