Injuries slow Bombers at Fulton Maroon tourney

It’s going to be a survival of the fittest for the L.V. Rogers Junior Bombers.
Playing with six players after starter Adam Berg went down with a broken arm last week during training and losing another in the tournament, the Junior Bombers ran out of gas in a 47-45 loss to
Mount Boucherie Bears in action Saturday at the Kelowna Secondary School Junior Boy’s Basketball Tournament in the Central Okanagan.
“The team has experienced some harsh injuries this year,” said Junior Bombers Vivian Kingdon. “Isaiah Kingdon has recently returned for his first set of games this past weekend after breaking his ring finger on his left hand.
“Last week at practice our 6’4″ post Adam Berg broke his arm and will not be returning to the hardwood this season.”
Still LVR played the Bears tough, led by Matt Zukowski with 23 points and Isaiah Kingdon with 12.
LVR opened the tournament with a sluggish performance, losing to Abbotsford 70-48. Foul trouble combined with a slow start did the Bombers in against the Fraser Valley squad.
Zukowski led the Bomber attack once again with 13 points while center McLain Sandeveland and Jack Sturrup scored 12 and 11 points, respectively.
LVR rebounded Saturday to knock off the Fulton Maroons 53-40. Sandeveland scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Bombers. Kingdon and Zukowski each had 10.
During the contest the Bombers lost Sturrup to an ankle injury to reduce the roster to six players.
The Bombers return to action January 28-29 with a mini tournament at the Hangar.
The event is a preview to a huge test for LVR as the Bombers travel to Edmonton February 17-19 to compete in the Tri-Provincial Tournament host by Harry Ainley Secondary School.
