RCMP said in a media release Tuesday that Creston General Investigation Section (GIS) has taken over the investigation into a dispute that escalated to gunshots being fired late Monday night in Crawford Bay.

The investigation is a result of an incident that happen February 8, 2021 minutes after 10 p.m., when front line Creston RCMP officers responded to a residence in the area of Crawford Creek and Selkirk Road for reports of shots fired.

“Police believe that a group of individuals attended a property in that area and confronted an occupant inside the home,” RCMP said.

“A dispute ensued, and the confrontation quickly escalated to shots allegedly being fired into the home.”

Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the BC RCMP in the Southeast District said investigators believe that an exchange of gunfire took place, as shots that appear to have originated from inside the house were also fired.

Cpl. O’Donaghey said the occupant of the home, an adult man, sustained what police believe to be a non-life-threatening injury, consistent with a gunshot.

“Front line officers responded to the scene and arrested a group of individuals outside. One of those individuals, a man in his late 30s, was also found to be suffering from an apparent gunshot wound,” the RCMP media release said.

Both men were transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for urgent medical care.

Police took steps to secure the scene overnight, which was then examined for physical evidence by forensic specialists with the RCMP Integrated Forensic Identification Section (IFIS).

“GIS investigators believe that this incident was targeted and isolated in nature, as the individuals involved were known to one another,” said Cpl. O’Donaghey.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Creston RCMP at 250-428-9313.
