The Grand Forks Wolves took another bite out of the L.V. Rogers Bombers on Seniors Night Tuesday at the Hangar.

Grand Forks teams swept both Senior and Junior High School Boys’ Basketball games as the hoop season winds down.

The Wolves stopped the Bombers 67-49 in West Kootenay Senior Boys’ Basketball League action while Grand Forks defeated LVR 58-32 in Junior Boys’ play.

After a brief, pre-game ceremony to salute graduating seniors from both teams, including five Bombers — Moss Caney, Carter Anderson, Gab Samson, Theo Lincourt and Johnny Michalchuk— LVR started slow, falling behind by 14 points before going on a late run to only trail 20-18 after one quarter.

The Bomber offence, however, dried up in the second quarter allowing the Wolves to regain the comfortable lead at halftime.

Jacob Bonikowski and Matti Erickson each scored 11 points to lead the Bombers attack.

In the Junior contest, Kohie Dunnett scored a game-high 24 points to lead the Wolves past the Bombers.

The game was a preview of the upcoming semi-final showdown between the two schools at this Saturday’s West Kootenay Championships, also at the Hangar.

Grand Forks enters the tournament as the second seed in the zone while the Bombers are third.

Tuesday, the Wolves jumped out to a 21-5 lead and never looked back.

Dunnett sparked the early surge with 12 points in the quarter.

LVR picked up its game in the second quarter, holding the Wolves to five points.

However, the Bombers were never able to penetrate the tough Wolves defence throughout the game.

Leading 37-23 after three quarters, the Wolves used a half-court zone press to frustrate the Bombers into committing several turnovers that led to easy baskets at the offensive end.

Anson da Silva had 10 points for the Wolves.

Quinn Kilpatrick led LVR with nine points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

Calvin Wheeler added eight points while Jake Marshall, Kyle Burgoyne and Joseph Sola each had four.
