RCMP are recommending charges to a 28-year-old man following an assault late Wednesday night at the Buy-Low Foods in Grand Forks.

In a media release Thursday, RCMP said the suspect was arrested at following a foot pursuit by officers on the Trans Canada Trail short time later after the assault.

RCMP received a call at 11:47 p.m. to a complaint of an Assault at Buy-Low Foods in Grand Forks.

“Members attended and learned that an employee of Buy-Low Foods and a suspect had gotten into a confrontation when a suspect tried to take a grocery cart from the business,” the media release said.

“It is alleged that the suspect struck the employee three times in the head.” “Witnesses assisted the police by obtaining video of the suspect fleeing with the shopping cart,” police added.

RCMP said at 12:30 a.m. the suspect believed to be responsible for the Assault was located near the Trans Canada Trail.

“The suspect was also in violation of Court ordered release conditions,” police said.
