Golden Search & Rescue responds to pair of avalanche incidents

Golden & District Search & Rescue (GADSAR) responded to a pair of avalanche incidents during the weekend RCMP said in a media release.

Sunday (March 11) just before 1 p.m., the Golden-Field RCMP were notified that an avalanche had been triggered on Repeater Ridge, out of bounds from the ski resort, near Golden.

Police immediately activated Golden & District Search & Rescue (GADSAR), who flew in to the area by helicopter.

The Golden-Field RCMP were advised that a male was injured. The male was flown back to Golden where he received further medical treatment.

Saturday, (March 10) at 2:23 pm, Golden-Field RCMP received information of a spot beacon activation, mapping to the area of Silent Pass.

Once again GADSAR were activated, and flew in to the area by helicopter.

The Golden-Field RCMP were advised that a male snowmobiler was injured. The male was flown back to Golden where he received further medical treatment.

In an unrelated incidents, Golden RCMP are sad to report the drowning of a young man.

Friday (March 9) just before 5 p.m. (MDT), the Golden-Field RCMP were advised by the BC Ambulance Service that they were responding to a report of a possible drowning, in a hot tub, at a residence just outside Golden.

A 14-year-old male, from Toronto, was transported to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

“At this time the death does not appear to be suspicious,” said Cst. Spencer Lainchbury with the Golden-Field RCMP.

“We will continue to assist the BC Coroner’s Service with their investigation.”
