The Nelson and District Arts Council is thrilled to announce the 31st annual ArtWalk set to kickoff with Opening Night Friday, June 28th from 6-9 p.m.

ArtWalk has become a highlight of the arts & cultural season offering the community a free event that showcases the work of local artists in business galleries. This year’s event hosts over 35 artists in 18 venues downtown and down to the waterfront.

There are three nights to put on your calendar this summer to ensure you don’t miss out.

For Opening Night all18 venues will be open and the showing artists will be on hand to chat about their work. We will have roaming performers visiting the venues and performing on the streets. Look for harpists, saxophone players, hang drummer, hula hooper, dancers, singers, musicians, and more. The schedule of these performances will be posted on the ArtWalk Nelson facebook page a few days before this opening.

This year the Nelson and District Arts Council is trying something different for the second opening. On Saturday, July 27th between 6-9 p.m. NDAC will be hosting creative spaces throughout downtown. Each space will have a different art disciplines including canvases, drum kits, ukuleles, typewriters, a practise mural wall, a photo booth and more. We invite you to ‘become the artist’ try your hand in any of these spaces. You never know what hidden talents you might discover. There spaces are marked on the map on the brochure.

The Nelson and District Arts Council are teaming up with the Nelson Road Kings to host a Family Friendly Street Dance in Hall Street Plaza on Friday, Sept 6th from 7 – 10 p.m. Dance under the stars with ‘Ruckus’ a local rock and roll band that are sure to get your toes tapping. This is the wrap party for ArtWalk 2019 and the kick-off for the Nelson Road Kings Queen City Cruise.

The Nelson and District Arts Council wants to thank the business community for their continued support of ArtWalk. The venues open up their spaces and their walls in support of the local arts community and we couldn’t continue this event without that support.

ArtWalk is supported by our generous sponsors the Province of British Columbia, the BC Arts Council, Regional District of Central Kootenay, Nelson and District Credit Union, Nelson Kootenay Lake Tourism, the City of Nelson and Columbia Basin Trust.
