With the bylaw to add Nelson Search and Rescue to the regional district array of financial services now complete, the future of the North Shore Hall is also up for discussion Tuesday.

The question of whether to allow NSAR to use the hall as its base of operation could be answered tonight as the regional district prepares to present a plan on the future operation of the hall, with a community meeting at 7 p.m. at the North Shore Hall.

Nelson SAR has been looking for a place to store equipment, to train and meet. The Nelson SAR Society has approached the Regional District of Central Kootenay to inquire about using the North Shore Hall for that purpose.

As a result, the regional district has held three community meetings to discuss the future of North Shore Hall, and how it could work with Nelson SAR.

The regional district identified North Shore Hall as a possible suitable location for Nelson SAR as the hall meets zoning requirements, has the necessary meeting space and has space that could be developed.

The North Shore community’s goals were to: ensure that the hall remains a place for public gatherings; remove the taxation for the local service area that pays for North Shore hall; and improve the hall.

The regional district has asked Nelson SAR to present its plan to the residents who are neighbours to North Shore hall and all the residents who pay taxes for the operation of the hall at the meeting next week.

In attendance to present and answer questions will be electoral Area F director, Ron Mickel, Nelson Search and Rescue Society representatives, and Joe Chirico, general manager of community services for the RDCK.
