Firefighters respond to small brush fire in Lower Fairview

Nelson Fire and Rescue Services firefighters said the fire was largely limited to the brush, fallen deciduous branches and heavy leafy debris of the immediate area.

The cause of an early morning brush fire Saturday remains under investigation said Nelson Fire and Rescue Services in a media release Monday.

Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said firefighters, two on duty and two on call, responded at approximately 1:22 a.m. to the report of a brush fire near homes and an apartment building in the 500 block of Second Street in Lower Fairview.

Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said when firefighters arrived they found a brush fire covering a two meter by four meter area. 

"The first arriving crew’s primary objective was to stop the growth of the fire, before it could get closer to nearby homes," the Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said.

"The fire was largely limited to the brush, fallen deciduous branches and heavy leafy debris of the immediate area."

Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said four firefighters responded to the incident with one fire engine, and one utility vehicle.
"The cause of the fire is still under investigation," Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said.

Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said would like to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to continue to call in small ground fire fires and abandoned campfires.

Nelson Fire and Rescue Services said that despite the colder climate and increased moisture, these fires remain a concern, particularly when they are found within the city.
