A home in the Rosemont Mobile Park was gutted following a fire Monday afternoon said Nelson Fire & Rescue Services in a media release.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said both on duty members responded to the call at 7:03 p.m. Monday of a structure fire in the Rosemont Mobile Park, located in the 900 block of West Gore Street.

The two members were quickly assisted by 15 additional members who responded from home.

“Upon arrival of the first crew, they observed a single trailer with flames coming from the windows and a large plume of dark smoke,” Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said.

“The first arriving crew’s primary objective was to secure a water supply and commence a fire attack to prevent the fire from spreading to the neighbouring trailers.”

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said crews were also concerned with the large coniferous trees behind the trailer and the hydro pole located near the burning trailer.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said Hydro on-call line staff were called to disconnect the power to the trailer to ensure the safety of the fire crews working and the residents in proximity.

“The fire appears to have originated in the living room area, and spread to the rest of the trailer,” Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said, “however the cause of the fire is still under investigation.”

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services said there were no major injuries reported during this incident.

However, the homeowner suffered minor smoke inhalation and was treated by EHS.

The damage is estimated at $200,000.

Nelson Fire & Rescue Services would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone to ensure they have working smoke alarms and to test them monthly.
