Environment Canada issues Snowfall Warning

The Kootenays region has all but been spared of winter thus far in 2019.
That all appears to be changing after Environment Canada issued a Snowfall Warning for Boundary, West Kootenay and Kootenay Lake Thursday.
Environment Canada said a slow moving frontal system will produce 15 to 25 cm of snow over West Columbia, including Rogers Pass, Nakusp and West Kootenay beginning tonight through to Saturday morning.
“For West Kootenay, heaviest snowfall can be expected over communities that are located at higher elevation,” Environment Canada said. “Snow will end Saturday morning as the frontal system dissipates.”
The public is advised that Highway 3, from Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, is expected to see upwards of 35 cm through Saturday morning.
Motorists should be prepared for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions with sudden changes in visibility times due to in heavy snow. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
