Environment Canada issues Snowfall Warning for West Kootenay/Boundary

West Kootenay/Boundary residents should be able to experience a White Christmas Day after Environment Canada issued another Snowfall Warning Tuesday for the region, with accumulations expected between 10cm — for Boundary — to 20cm — for West Kootenay/Kootenay Lake.
Environment Canada said heavy snow is expected Tuesday and into the evening for the West Kootenay, Kootenay Lake, East Kootenay, South Elk Valley, Grand Forks, Midway Christina Lake as well as Highway 3 — Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.
“A warm front is brushing southern BC bringing heavy snow to the Kootenays today and this evening,” Environment Canada said.
“A total of 15cm to 20cm of snow is forecast. Communities near the U.S. Border will see the highest accumulations.”
Environment Canada advises drivers to be prepared to adjust driving with changing road conditions as visibility is most likely to be reduced while driving.
“Turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada said.
“Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
The website Shift Into Winter reminds drivers to be prepared before trips and to adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.

The Environment Canada forecast calls for sunny skies of Wednesday and Thursday before snow returns Friday and Christmas Eve, with temperatures dipping to minus 10 C Friday and minus 9 C Saturday.
