Dream

Friday, March 25 @ The Capitol Theatre, 7:30 p.m.

Local aerial photographer Benjamin Jordan will capture the first ever West Kootenay Community Formation and would like to extend a personal invitation to Nelson residents to be part in this event.

This March marks the launch of his Above and Beyond Kootenays initiative which connects his local fundraising efforts to the local youth camp, Tipi Camp.

Other fundraising events include a month-long photography gallery at Oso Negro café and the Canadian premier of his cross-Canada paragliding documentary film Dream at the Capitol, March 25 at 7:30 p.m. (Tickets: $10 adults, $5 children. Available at Otter Books).

The photograph will be made up of over 300 community members connecting in the shape of a river flowing through mountains and is intended to serve as a reminder of the power of community and the love shared for the environment.

It will be sold online and at local stores afterwards to raise funds to send West Kootenay children from low-income homes to Tipi Camp, a remote access nature camp on the East Shore which focuses on wilderness immersion for self esteem.

Having grown up in low-income Toronto home, Jordan recognizes that the charity camps he attended during his youth were solely responsible for his passion for nature and community today.

Jordan began creating aerial formation work as a way of giving back during his 2009 paraglider voyage across Canada, as he produced 30 formations with schools and summer camps to benefit that same cause: sending children from low-income homes to summer camp.
