The hours and minutes are winding down for the Cottonwood Lake Preservation Society’s goal of raising $180,000 by August 31, 2020 to be put toward purchasing 49 hectares of land slated to be logged lands directly above Cottonwood Lake, located south of Nelson.

The $180,000 was a figure goal set to begin negotiations with landowner the land purchase.

However, there is still have work to do as the CLPS remains approximately $80,000 short.

“We have been experiencing a surge in donations and feel confident that we can come very close to hitting our goal,” the CLPS spokesperson said.

“Close enough that we can convince the landowner to extend the deadline, giving us more time to raise more money so we can save this precious gem."

During the past few weeks major community support has been received by various businesses and corporations, including:

  • $5,000 donation and challenge to businesses from Sam Baio of Valhalla Pure Outfitters Nelson
  • $10,000 donation from the Nelson & District Credit Union.
  • Fortis BC
  • RBC
  • Spearhead,
  • Royal Canadian Legion Branch #51
  • Bibby Orthodontics

“Our group is working with some businesses and organizations who are considering larger donations, which would be huge for our cause,” the CLPS said.

“However, we still need local individuals and local businesses to step up and give what you can to show your support and together, save this piece of our community.”
