COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Kootenay/Boundary regions

The Kootenay/Boundary region has seen another spike in new COVID-19 cases in the province the BC Centre of Disease Control data shows.
The BCCDC Geographic Distribution map show more than 100 new cases in the Boundary, and East and West Kootenay regions, with Windermere in the East Kootenay showing the highest number of COVID-19 cases at 34.
Cranbrook and Kimberley have 23 and 13 new cases, respectively, while Creston has 12 and Fernie eight.
In the West Kootenay, Nelson has 13 new COVID-19 cases while Trail has eight and Castlegar six.
Kootenay Lake had two new cases.
In the Boundary region, Grand Forks lists two cases while Kettle Valley and Arrow Lakes have none.
In Nelson, COVID-19 has struck a local elementary school as well as a downtown business.
Kootenay Lake School District 8 has told a class a Rosemont Elementary to self-isolate after an exposure April 6-9.

Meanwhile, a local hotel has said on its Facebook page “a member of our (businesses) family has tested positive for COVID.”
“This person was not in direct contact with the Food & Beverage department and all staff that were in direct contact with this person has been tested and have had negative results.”
The business wanted to thank its customers for their continuous support and well wishes.
After dipping below 900 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, those provincial numbers rose again to more than 1,100 cases Wednesday and 1,205 Thursday — including 69 Thursday in Interior Health.
Wednesday, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said there was 341 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 632 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 64 in the Island Health region, 105 in the Interior Health region, 26 in the Northern Health region and no new cases of people who reside outside of Canada.
Thursday, there were 301 new cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 730 new cases in the Fraser Health region, 38 in the Island Health region, 69 in the Interior Health region, 66 in the Northern Health region and one new case of a person who resides outside of Canada.
Dr. Henry said there were also six new COVID-19 related deaths Wednesday and three Thursday, for a total of 1,524 deaths in British Columbia.
