After 20 years of service, retiring Nelson Police Chief Constable Paul Burkart is going out in style.

The Chief Constable is being sent off into the frigid waters of Kootenay Lake from the end of the Hall Street dock as Burkart, takes the plunge to raise money for BC Special Olympics FreezinforaReason Campaign with the Cold in the Koots fundraiser.

Burkart, who will be replaced next month by incoming NPD Chief Constable Donovan Fisher, is being joined by Chief Len MacCharles of Nelson Fire Rescue Services and Chief Deb Morris of BC Ambulance Services.

The trio will be virtually pushed off into the frigid waters of Kootenay Lake by eight-year-old local ambassador for BC Special Olympics, Payton Birk.

The event will be live-streamed due to COVID-19 on March 6, 2021 at 10 a.m.
