Columbia Basin Culture Tour, back on August 10-11

The Columbia Basin Cultural Tour is back.
On August 10 & 11, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., the Columbia Basin Culture Tour allows you to explore artists’ studios, museums, art galleries and heritage sites during this free, self-guided event. Travel to studios and archives that aren’t normally open, see demonstrations, new exhibitions and collections or meet people behind the scenes.
To participate in the tour, simply grab a map, the Culture Tour Directory and begin the tour.
Nelson & District Chamber of Commerce has joined the tour this year, offering a tour of their visitors centre, as well as a place to get all those questions answered about places to go in Nelson.
Stop at Art Rage, where Michael Graham uses painting and mixed media for his creative expression. He will take you on a tour of his space and share his free and spontaneous take on visual arts.
New to the tour this year is Hall Printing where they will host Comic Artist Erin Shuttleworth who will be demonstrating illustrations and writing. Right around the corner is Touchstones Nelson; a unique combination of Art Gallery, Museum and archives. Their exhibitions offer a diversity of topics and themes that reflect the broad interests and capabilities of people living in the region.
At Kootenay Studio Arts/Selkirk College you can watch students and alumni in the jewellery department demonstrating jewellery techniques and also view and purchase their work. Lily Andersen Jewelry will also be demonstrating and selling her metal jewellery.
The Columbia Basin Cultural Tour is excited to welcome Kate Bridger to the tour again this year. Her immaculate fabric art is sure to capture your spirit. Visitors can expect to see a display of her work, works in progress, the organized ‘chaos’ of her workspace and will likely leave with a stray thread or two attached to their clothing!
Next drop in at Karen Guilbault’s studio and see her acrylic paintings of birds and landscapes. Then you can visit Kimberley Hyatt Studios and see her hand build ceramics and dog art. Next on the tour is D.E Walters Ceramics, where you can see demonstrations of ceramics and sculptural pottery. For a change or mediums, next visitors can stop at Jacques Dupas venue to see his functional fused glass work.
New to the tour this year is ViewPoint Art Gallery which is situated on the beautiful Kootenay Lake. Here you will see various artistic work by local artists in a variety of mediums.
Laura McEachern is opening up her creative studio to Culture Tour visitors. Laura’s foundation in sewing and passion for fibre led to traditional patchwork quilting. The art of quilting opened up endless possibilities of embellishing fabric with a variety of techniques using thread, paper, ink, paint and dye. Moving on to Venue # 34 is Sweet Mountain Pottery which is the last stop in the Nelson area. Here you can take a tour of the pottery studio, view the gallery and walk in the garden.
