The City of Nelson said snow accumulation due to recent winter storms is going to delay pick up of garbage at least for another week.

City staff said while crews will commence garbage pickup next week, some residents may still be missed due to road and alley conditions.

“The City is extending the dates for residents to drop off their garbage bags down along Lakeside Drive across from the airport,” City media release said.

“The large metal bin will be in place all this week and next week until the end of day Saturday, January 22nd.”

The City said Public Works crews will be collecting garbage and recycling next week, however, warming temperatures may affect driving condition of the alleys and side streets.

The City is encouraging those who can do so continue to take their garbage down to the bin this week.

As for recycling, City staff realize some residents may have issues storing additional recyclables from the holiday season.

“In speaking with the RDCK, who manages the two local recycling depots, they are asking for those who can hold on to their recycling until the next pick-up to please do so as they are also experiencing challenges related to the significant snowfalls,” City staff said.

However, anyone that is overwhelmed with recycling take items to either of the RDCK recycling depots at 70 Lakeside Drive or Grohman Narrows at 1201 Insight Drive west of the Heritage City on Highway 3A.

“Please do not drop off blue bags or boxes of recycling at the depots,” City staff said.

“All recycling must be sorted into the proper bins at the depots.”
