The West Coast BC roots band, Carmanah, will play Tuesday (May 27), 8 p.m. at Expressions Night Café at 554 Ward Street.

The band, consisting of Laura Mina Mitic, Pat Ferguson, Cody Alan Gregory and Steve Biggs, embraces the energy of the beautiful west-coast of Canada.

Carmanah has captivated audiences of all ages and musical preferences with a sound that incorporates folk, funk, rock, reggae and country. Their instrumentation includes fiddle, guitar, flute, djembe, mandolin, and of course, vocals, drums and bass.

On May 16, the band released their second album, titled Out of the Woodwork, and are coming to Nelson as part of a three-week tour of Western Canada in support of that release.

Themes of environmental concern appear throughout the band’s work, beginning with their name, Carmanah, in honour of the many people who protested to keep the many old growth trees in the Carmanah Valley of Vancouver Island safe from logging companies in 1988.

Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance by calling 250-354-3910.
