It’s back . . . and even better.

The #BuyBasin Festival, featuring musical performances, local artisans as well as numerous other businesses, has returned following a successful spring event to take consumers live to local shops around the Columbia Basin beginning in mid-October.

Participants in the #BuyBasin Festival will experience the opportunity to see what the Columbia Basin community has to offer and how the public can shop locally.

#BuyBasin Festival, hosted by the Columbia Basin Trust and delivered by FestivalSeekers on Facebook and Instagram, runs from October 18 to November 10, 2021.

For five days a week, up to six businesses will go live on social media to reveal expert tips, demonstrate their products, and provide behind-the-scenes access — alongside performances from a range of entertainers.

During the four-week festival, approximately 100 businesses are expected to have the opportunity to showcase their products and services.

“We are very excited and grateful for the opportunity to be a featured business during the #BuyBasinFestival,” said Jennifer and Pete Leschuk at Kootenay Crate Co. in Nelson.

“With their help and support we will be scheduled to go live on Facebook and Instagram on Monday October 18 at noon.”

Established in 2015, Kootenay Crate Co. moved to Nelson in 2017 to raise a family and enjoy the beauty of the outdoors in the Kootenays.

Kootenay Crate Co. offers locally sourced, hand-made furniture and housewares as well as customized products and consultation to assist in organizing and beautifying the home.

“We also feature over 25 independent local makers and artists . . . from handmade soaps, candles, and original art to custom made engraved signs that can be personalized,” the Leschuk’s said.

“These are ideal for special occasions and gifts.”

Open for business Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 464 Baker Street in Nelson, Jennifer and Pete said, “made in the Kootenays is our philosophy, and the support of locals and visitors alike is something we are grateful for every day.”

Along with offering the public the opportunity to see the unique services and products available at the many businesses in the Columbia Basin, the #BuyBasin Festival also improves local businesses by teaching them how to be effective online and through social media.

As a participant in the event, each business receives training on how to go live on social media, build social media strategies and tell their unique story online.

In spring 2021, the #BuyBasin Festival featured 112 local business owners, entrepreneurs, and artists, resulting in increased awareness of their goods and services and additional sales.

The viewing public can expect to see a new lineup of live videos every weekday from October 18 to November 10, 2021 — simply by following the #BuyBasin hashtag on social media.
