The Kootenay Ice wasted an opportunity to move up the B.C. Hockey Major Midget League standings.

The eighth-place Fraser Valley Bruins skated into the Cominco Arena and stole three of four points from the Ice in Major Midget League action during the weekend.

Sunday, Brady Lawlor scored in the third period to snap a 3-3 tie, sparking the Bruins to a 4-3 win. Saturday, the teams played to a 3-3 tie.

Lawlor’s marker came midway through the third period and spoiled a comeback by the Ice.

Cranbrook’s Ben Betker and Carsen Willans of Nelson had rallied Kootenay from a 3-1 second period deficit. Jake Lucchini of Trail scored the other goal for Kootenay.

Saturday, Tyson McKim scored in the third period to lift Fraser Valley into a tie.

Kootenay looked to be in control, holding period leads of 2-0 and 3-2. Trail’s Jacob Boyczuk, with a pair, and team captain Derek Georgopoulous of Cranbrook scored for Kootenay.

Kootenay, 10th overall with a 2-11-3 mark, returns to the ice Saturday in South Surrey against the Valley West Hawks.

Next home game is November 27 at the NDCC Arena against Greater Vancouver Canadians.
