The L.V. Rogers Bombers tuned up for the Kootenay High School Boy’s Soccer Zone Championships by posting a 2-2 record at the Mount Baker Wild Tournament this past weekend in Cranbrook.

LVR thumped AA rivals Stanley Humphries of Castlegar 9-3 and David Thompson Lakers of Invermere 7-1 before dropping a pair of close shootout losses to  host Mount Baker 4-3 and Kalispell, Montana, 5-4.

“The LVR boys put on a clinic in terms of passing and possession this past weekend in Cranbrook,” said Bomber coach Caleb Morton.

“They definitively defeated their ‘AA’ Zone competition, Castlegar and Invermere, 9-3 and 7-1 respectively.”

“However they were not so fortunate in their shootouts against Kalispell and Cranbrook after 1-1 draws in regular time,” Morton added.

“In each of those extra time penalty kicks they lost by a shooter, 5-4 and 4-3 respectively.”

LVR opened with a match against AA rival Stanley Humphries. Keegan Carmichael scored five times and Moss Caney added a hat-trick to power the Bombers to the lopsided victory. Carter Anderson scored the final Bomber marker.

Caney then scored the only goal as LVR tied Kalispell 1-1. LVR lost in shootout 5-4.

The Bombers returned to the pitch to bounce David Thompson Lakers 7-1. Matteo Mushumanski and Milo Klein each scored twice to pace the Bomber attack. Carmichael, Caney, Pikoi Krempl Tingllin and Callum Cutler each added singles.

In the final match of the tournament, LVR fell in shootout to host Mount Baker Wild 4-3.

The Bombers, defending Kootenay AA Champs, may play host the Kootenay Championships this week.

The tournament is pending decisions by Stanley Humphries and David Thompson on whether the school want to compete to advance to the BC High School AA Boy’s Soccer Championships November 18-20 in Langley.
